Part 1 of 3 - Athenry Castle

Saturday, August 7, there was no rain, the skies were clear, amazing how that has happened both Saturday's so far!  I'm all for that to continue every Saturday!
So we hopped in the car and headed for some more castles.

First stop, Athenry.  Today Athenry proudly claims to being the finest surviving medieval town in Ireland, it'd be neat to go back when there are festivals going on, watch jostling, etc!  It also has a curtain wall and moat surrounding it, I think they mentioned it's the only town left in Ireland with a wall remaining.  Serious character, narrow streets, simply a very neat place!  Here are some pictures of the castle.

Tight space for the toilet!! It's on the second floor...

Very cool to see pictures of Athenry, a place sung about in one of Irishman Phil Coulter's songs. His CDs would be great accompaniment to these road trips while you're tooling around Ireland!
